WoW Forever Skyborne Guide

The Skyborne are one of the biggest new features coming to World of Warcraft: Forever.

They are a brand-new playable race with their own starting experience on Zephras Isle, giving players a completely new way to begin their journey through Forever’s reimagined Azeroth.

This guide covers everything currently confirmed about the Skyborne and will be expanded as the beta reveals more.

Who Are the Skyborne?

The Skyborne are a new playable race created specifically for World of Warcraft: Forever.

Unlike simply adding another existing race to the game, Blizzard is giving the Skyborne their own starting experience and introducing them as part of Forever’s new version of Azeroth.

The Skyborne are available through the optional Forever upgrade packages.

Where Do Skyborne Start?

Skyborne characters begin their journey on Zephras Isle.

Zephras Isle is their dedicated starting experience and is one of the new locations introduced with Forever.

This means that creating a Skyborne character won’t simply drop you into an existing Classic starting zone.

Instead, you’ll experience a new opening area designed specifically around the Skyborne.

Is Zephras Isle a New Zone?

Yes.

Zephras Isle is new content created for Forever.

It is particularly important because it serves as the Skyborne starting area and introduces players to the race and its story.

When Can I Play a Skyborne?

Skyborne access is included with the Skyborne Heroic Pack and everything above it.

The Skyborne Epic Pack includes the same Skyborne access as the Heroic Pack, along with beta access and additional rewards.

Can I Play Skyborne During the Beta?

Yes, if you have beta access.

The Skyborne Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection include access to the Forever beta.

The Heroic Pack provides Skyborne access but does not include beta access.

Should I Start the Beta With a Skyborne?

If you’re interested in seeing what makes Forever different from Classic, it’s a very good choice.

The Skyborne give you access to content that simply didn’t exist in the original game.

Starting with one lets you experience:

  • A new playable race
  • A new starting area
  • New quests
  • New characters and story
  • Forever’s new interpretation of Azeroth

It also gives you an immediate look at how Blizzard is approaching new content while retaining the foundations of the original game.

What Classes Can Skyborne Play?

Additional race/class combinations have been announced as part of Forever.

However, the complete Skyborne class list and all restrictions should be treated as beta information until Blizzard confirms the final configuration.

We’ll update this section as soon as the playable combinations are confirmed.

What Are the Skyborne Racial Abilities?

The complete final racial ability information has not yet been sufficiently detailed by Blizzard to build a reliable theorycrafting guide.

That’s important because beta abilities and numbers can change.

Once the beta provides the complete information, this section will cover:

  • Racial abilities
  • Passive bonuses
  • Cooldowns
  • Utility abilities
  • Combat effects
  • Profession bonuses
  • Any unique Skyborne mechanics

What Is the Skyborne Starting Experience Like?

This is one of the things we are most interested in testing during the beta.

The starting experience should tell us a lot about Forever’s design philosophy.

We’ll be looking at:

Story

Why are the Skyborne leaving Zephras Isle?

What is happening in their homeland?

How do they fit into the wider events of Forever?

Questing

How does the new quest design compare with the original WoW levelling experience?

Are quests primarily traditional objectives, or does Blizzard use newer approaches?

Progression

How quickly does a new Skyborne character progress?

What abilities and equipment are introduced during the starting experience?

World Design

How large is Zephras Isle?

How much exploration is possible?

Are there hidden quests, rare enemies, treasures or other secrets?

Transition

Where does the Skyborne journey go after completing the starting experience?

This could be particularly important for players deciding whether Skyborne will be their main race.

What Makes Skyborne Different From Existing Races?

The biggest difference is simple:

They’re new.

Classic players know the original races and their starting areas extremely well.

Skyborne provide something that even experienced WoW players won’t already know by heart.

Their starting area, quests and early progression are new territory.

That makes them particularly interesting for players who have already spent years exploring the original Azeroth.

Should I Main a Skyborne?

That’s impossible to answer before the beta.

Your decision will depend on several things:

  • Available classes
  • Racial abilities
  • Starting experience
  • Appearance/customisation
  • Faction considerations
  • Class balance
  • Profession interactions
  • Endgame viability
  • Personal preference

If you’re primarily interested in the new Forever experience, however, Skyborne will probably be one of the most obvious races to try first.

Skyborne and the Forever Story

Forever continues the Warcraft story after the events of Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and places players in a reimagined original Azeroth.

The Skyborne are therefore being introduced into a world that players already recognise, but where events and possibilities can develop differently.

Exactly how the Skyborne fit into the wider story is something the beta should reveal.

What We Don’t Know Yet

There are still plenty of unanswered questions.

We want to know:

  • The complete Skyborne class list
  • Their final racial abilities
  • Their starting level
  • The full Zephras Isle quest chain
  • How long the starting experience takes
  • Their starting equipment
  • Their starting professions
  • Their faction relationships
  • Their racial reputation
  • Their appearance/customisation options
  • Their role in the wider Forever story
  • Whether Zephras Isle remains relevant after the starting experience

Some of these answers may change during beta testing.

This Guide Will Grow During the Beta

Right now, the most important thing to remember is that this is a pre-beta guide.

We know the Skyborne exist.

We know they have their own starting experience.

We know that Zephras Isle is part of Forever.

But we don’t yet know every detail about how they actually play.

Once the beta opens, this page will become a proper Skyborne reference covering the race from character creation through the end of its starting experience.

The real guide starts when players get their hands on them.
