What Is WoW Forever?

World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard’s new take on the original World of Warcraft experience.

Set in the familiar world of Azeroth, Forever starts from the foundations of the original game while expanding the world with new zones, quests, dungeons, raids, character options, professions, and other systems.

Rather than simply recreating the original game, Blizzard describes Forever as a reimagined original Azeroth — a version of the world where the journey remains important and the game can continue to grow for years to come.

When does WoW Forever release?

World of Warcraft: Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026.

The game will be available as part of a World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time. There is no separate base-game purchase required for access to Forever once it launches.

Before launch, Blizzard will run a public beta.

The WoW Forever Beta begins September 17, 2026, and is scheduled to run until October 21, 2026. Beta access is included with the Skyborne Epic Pack and the Warcraft Forever Collection.

Is WoW Forever Classic WoW?

Not exactly.

Forever is built around the spirit and foundations of the original World of Warcraft, but it isn’t simply another Classic server.

Blizzard is expanding Azeroth with new content while retaining the importance of exploration, preparation, character progression and the world itself.

Among the announced additions are:

  • Three new, and expanded zones
  • More than 1,000 new quests
  • Nine new dungeons
  • Two new raids
  • New professions and skills
  • New race and class combinations
  • The new Skyborne playable race
  • New items and reputations
  • Updated world visuals and lighting
  • Account-wide perks

Forever is therefore best thought of as an expanded version of the original World of Warcraft experience, rather than a straightforward recreation of Vanilla WoW.

What is the idea behind Forever?

One of the central ideas behind Forever is that the journey matters.

Blizzard has talked about keeping the world relevant instead of making the game purely about rushing towards the latest endgame content.

The level cap will remain at 60, with progression continuing through other systems rather than simply increasing the maximum level.

That means Forever isn’t being designed around a traditional cycle of:

new expansion → higher level cap → old content becomes obsolete.

Instead, Blizzard says it wants to continue growing the world while keeping players together and allowing existing accomplishments and content to remain relevant.

Exactly how that philosophy will work over the long term is something we will learn more about as the beta develops.

A bigger Azeroth

Forever expands the original world rather than replacing it.

New and expanded areas have been announced, including Mount Hyjal, Riverglades and Zephras Isle, alongside additional content throughout the existing world.

The result is intended to be a version of Azeroth that feels familiar while providing new places to explore.

There are also more than 1,000 additional quests announced for Forever, representing a substantial increase in the amount of questing content available compared with the original game.

The Skyborne

One of the biggest additions is the Skyborne, a new playable race created specifically for Forever.

Skyborne characters can join either the Horde or the Alliance, with different cultural identities and class options depending on their faction.

The new race also comes with its own starting experience on Zephras Isle.

The Skyborne aren’t simply another cosmetic option. Blizzard has built new lore, a starting zone and unique race/class combinations around them.

The Skyborne will be one of the major subjects we’ll be following here at WoW Forever Hub once the beta begins.

New race and class combinations

Forever also changes some of the traditional restrictions around which races can play which classes.

Blizzard has announced a number of new combinations, including combinations such as Dwarf Shaman and Undead Paladin.

These changes could have a significant effect on character creation, leveling and the game’s class meta.

We’ll be able to properly evaluate them once players get their hands on the beta.

New dungeons and raids

Forever isn’t only expanding the leveling experience.

The game will also introduce new dungeons and raids, including both 10-player and 20-player raid content.

This gives players new group content to explore while keeping the original world and its existing content relevant.

The exact details of every dungeon, raid and encounter are still being developed or revealed, so this is another area where the beta should provide a much clearer picture.

Is WoW Forever a new expansion?

No.

Forever is its own World of Warcraft experience rather than a conventional expansion layered onto modern retail WoW.

It is also not intended to replace the existing versions of World of Warcraft.

Instead, Blizzard is positioning Forever as a separate experience built around an expanded version of the original Azeroth.

That distinction is important.

If you enjoy the original-era design philosophy but want new places, new quests, new classes and new discoveries, Forever is intended to provide exactly that.

How much does WoW Forever cost?

Access to Forever itself will be included with a World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time when the game launches.

Blizzard is also selling optional upgrade editions.

The Skyborne Heroic Pack includes access to the Skyborne race and its starting experience, along with various cosmetic bonuses and other benefits.

The Skyborne Epic Pack includes everything in the Heroic Pack plus access to the Forever beta, 30 days of Game Time beginning at launch, additional cosmetics and other bonuses.

There is also a limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection containing additional Warcraft-related benefits.

Importantly, the Heroic Pack does not provide beta access. Beta access begins with the Epic Pack or the Warcraft Forever Collection.

What we don’t know yet

Despite the announcement, there is still a lot we don’t know.

The beta will answer many of the questions players are already asking about:

  • How progression works at level 60
  • Exactly how professions will work
  • The complete class and race combinations
  • The full dungeon and raid lineup
  • Endgame progression
  • How new content will be added over time
  • How account-wide systems work
  • How Hardcore will be supported
  • How the economy and professions develop
  • How the new areas fit into the existing world
  • What changes between beta and launch

That’s where WoW Forever Hub comes in.

This site isn’t going to pretend we know everything before we’ve actually played it.

We’ll track what Blizzard confirms, what players discover during beta, and what changes as Forever develops.

When does the beta start?

The first major date for anyone interested in Forever is:

September 17, 2026 — WoW Forever Beta begins.

The beta is currently scheduled to run through October 21, 2026.

The full game then launches on:

November 4, 2026.

That makes the beta the next major milestone for WoW Forever.

And that’s when we’ll really start finding out what this new Azeroth is like.
